Koh Samui Entertainment & Activities
Koh Samui Attractions

People visit Koh Samui for the sun, sea and sand, however there is far more to see in Koh Samui than first meets the eye. The beach life, which has made Koh Samui not only one of Thailand’s top holiday destinations, but the worlds, is perhaps the jewel in the crown, but each of the areas have their own charm and there is never a dull day on Koh Samui with a vast choice of activities for the energetic and the not-so energetic.
Koh Samui is primarily a leisure island, and has been developed to make the most of commercial tourism and to look after international travellers. While some areas on Koh Samui’s coast are now busy with hotels and resorts, there are still areas with secluded beaches and individual tranquil resorts, ideal to escape and enjoy the tranquility of this peaceful island.
You can experience what Koh Samui has to offer in several ways, including renting bicycles on which, you can circumnavigate the whole island; alternatively you can hire a local guide to show you the sights of Koh Samui or rent a car to see the island.
For any visit to Koh Samui, the Big Buddha is worth visiting, situated in the north of Koh Samui; it really is a must-see place. There are also some other temples and chedis in Koh Samui and if you are looking for a slice of Thai culture, this is a good place to start.
Island Guide maps are readily available and can point out the best viewpoints and waterfall spots which can make for some great photo opportunities for the wall at home. Perhaps one of the more famous sights are also the Hin Ta and Hin Ya rocks, which jut out from the sea at the end of the popular Lamai Beach.
The Beaches are obviously one of the most popular sights of Koh Samui. Chaweng Beach is the most developed and tourist populated of the beaches, but is very picturesque for sun downer drinks beside the beach. Here there are shops and a main street with everything you will need during your visit. The second most popular of the beaches is Lamai Beach which is located slightly further down south which is a relaxed beach area with a lively night time party scene. Some of the other beaches worth mentioning are the northern beaches of Big Buddha bay, Bophut and Mae Nam which are relatively quiet but not as ideal for those wishing to go swimming. On the western coast of Koh Samui island is Nathon beach which is a Thai area which is the commercial hub for the island. If you would like a slice of the traditional Thailand and the original island atmosphere, the coconut plantations of Koh Samui in the south of the island is worth visiting.
If you are visiting Koh Samui, then it doesn’t mean you can experience other places, there are three popular island areas to discover on your trip to Koh Samui. Koh Phang Ngan, Koh Tao and Ang Thong National park. Koh Phangan is the backpacker’s paradise and is popularised for its world-renown full moon party, but is a very relaxing and natural environment. Koh Tao is popular among divers for its amassing reefs and crystal waters. However, very much the jewel of this area is the protected Ang Thong National park, which is untouched and completely undeveloped and is one of Thailand’s most picture perfect destinations.
